A Rohingya youth was arrested along with 230,000 Yaba pills near Naf River border at Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar.
The arrest was made during a drive, conducted by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), on Saturday evening around 7 PM in Zaillyapara border area of Hnila union, confirmed Lieutenant Colonel Ashiqur Rahman, commander of Teknaf-2 BGB Battalion.
The arrested is identified as Abdur Shukkur, 21, son of late Saleh Ahmed from Nafpura, Maungdaw Township, in Myanmar's Rakhine State.
Explaining the incident, Lt. Col. Ashiqur said two BGB patrol teams were stationed near the Naf River when they spotted two suspicious individuals carrying sacks near the shoreline. As the individuals approached the embankment, the BGB instructed them to stop. Instead, they attempted to flee, abandoning the sacks.
"BGB personnel chased them, successfully capturing one individual while the other managed to escape. Upon inspecting the abandoned sacks, officers discovered 230,000 Yaba pills," he added.
The arrested has been handed over to Teknaf Police Station and a case has been filed under the relevant legal provisions. Authorities are continuing their investigation to apprehend the second suspect and uncover further details about the drug trafficking network, added the BGB official.
