Undivided Dhaka City BNP's former president and BNP member of parliament from the Dhaka-11 (now 14) constituency SA Khaleque has passed away (Inna lillahe wa Inna Ilaihe Rajewn).
He died on Sunday (January 5) afternoon while he was undergoing treatment at United Hospital in Dhaka, said his family.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went to see SA Khaleque early Sunday afternoon. BNP Chairperson's advisory council member Abdus Salam accompanied Mirza Fakhrul.
SA Khaleque had long been suffering from cardiovascular, diabetes and other complicated diseases. There were as many as 13 rings in his heart. Earlier on Wednesday, SA Khaleque was admitted to hospital. He was put under ventilation on Saturday night. Later, he died on Sunday afternoon.
Apart from a politician, SA Khaleque was a businessman. He invested huge amount of money in real estate, transport and other sectors.
SA Khaleque joined BNP's politics with the party founder and former president Ziaur Rahman. After joining the party, he was first elected member of parliament in the Jatiya Sangsad election held on February 18, 1979.
He was also elected MPs in 1986 and 1988. Then he was elected the BNP MP in 1996 and 2001.
