Fortune Barishal's West Indies recruit Kyle Mayers thinks the toss will be an important factor in the Sylhet phase of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) due to excessive dew, specially at night game.
He, therefore, laid emphasis on playing good cricket to neutralize dew effect.
"When you play T20 cricket, you play in conditions around the world in dew. As professionals, you just have to roll with it. It's not an easy job, in fielding and bowling-wise, when there is dew. The toss will be crucial one," he told the reporters at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
"But on any day if you bat first or bowl first, you just need to do your best. And if you play your best cricket, it's very easy."
Defending Champions Fortune Barishal got off the tournament in emphatic fashion, having secured a four-wicket win over Durbar Rajshahi by chasing a tall target of 198.
But thereafter they were dented by the bowling might of Rangpur Riders and tasted an eight-wicket defeat. They will take on Durbar Rajshahi in return-leg match to kick-off their Sylhet phase today (Monday).
"It's a new season, a new team and we have a great team. It's not the way we want to play. But it's cricket, it happens, it can happen to anybody. Best teams in the world fumble at some point," Myers said, adding that they are trying to rectify the mistakes.
"It's just for us to understand where we went wrong and to try and rectify it as faster as possible."
Myers said Captain Tamim Iqbal gave them the freedom and asked them to stay relaxed regardless of the defeat.
"It's ok to make mistakes in a tournament, especially at the beginning. As the captain said, we are still trying to find our best combination, how we want to play our cricket. It's a new team," he said.
"Obviously, players from last year are here, but there are new players here. Just need to find the balance, try to find the best XI and play the best cricket that we can," Kyle Mayers added. —BSS
