Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku on Sunday urged the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders and activists to remain vigilant against any kind of conspiracy to thwart the country's democracy.

"Chhatra Dal should remain vigilant against any conspiracy and protect democracy in the country," he said while addressing as the chief guest a discussion organized at Shaheed Minar Chattar in the district town marking the founding anniversary of Chhatra Dal.

He said Chhatra Dal has been serving as the sentinel to protect the democracy of Bangladesh since the anti-dictatorship movement of the 1990.

Numerous leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal have been martyred in the student-people's movement against the fascist Awami League.

In the movement, the BNP remained united under the prudent leadership of Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, he added.

Tangail District Chhatra Dal Convener Durjoy Horh presided over the discussion while BNP Dhaka Divisional Assistant Organizing Secretary Benazir Ahmed Tito, District BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shaheen, General Secretary Forham Iqbal and District Chhatra Dal Member Secretary M A Baten also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, in the morning, the founding anniversary programme of Chhatra Dal was inaugurated by releasing balloons and pigeons at Shaheed Smriti Municipal Park in the town.

Later, a procession was brought out from there that ended coming at Shaheed Minar after parading various streets of the town.    —BSS
