The interim government cancelled a planned training programme in India for 50 judges and judicial officers.

The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs on Sunday issued an order to cancel a notification from December 30, last year, which permitted 50 judicial officers to attend a training programme in India.

Training wing-1 of the Law Ministry issued the notification, saying the gazette has been cancelled as per the direction of the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the 50 officials were given permission to go to India for training at National Judicial Academy at Bhopal and a state judicial academy.

Issued on December 30, 2024, the gazette had permitted the judicial officials of the lower court to take part in the training courses from February 10 to 20, 2025.

The Law Ministry granted the permission following the advice of the Supreme Court.

Assistant judges, senior assistant judges, joint district and sessions judges, additional district and sessions judges, district and sessions judges and officials of equivalent ranks were selected for the training.

As per the notification earlier issued, the government did not have any financial involvement with the training as the Indian government was supposed to bear all the expenses.

The circular further mentioned that all expenses for the training were to be borne by the Indian government, with no financial involvement from the government of Bangladesh.

In April 2017, in a bilateral understanding signed by India and Bangladesh, agreed that judicial training was arranged to enhance the capacity and expertise of Bangladeshi judicial officials at India's National Judicial Academy and other institutions.
