Some important documents of 1,911 cases, related to murder, drugs, explosion, have been missing from Chittagong court.
The missing papers are very essential for the trials. Without those, it will be difficult to for fair prosecute the case and prove the crime, said the lawyers.
Md Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan, public prosecutor of the Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court, filed a general diary (GD) with Kotwali Police Station on Sunday over the incident.
The Chittagong Metropolitan PP office had 28 to 30 court case dockets. Due to lack of space in the PP office, the case dockets of 1,911 cases were kept in plastic bags wrapped in polythene on the front veranda of the PP office since April 24, 2023. The documents were lost between December 13 and December 31 as the office was closed during the court vacation. Despite extensive searches, they could not be found. An application was made to keep the matter in the police station diary, the GD said.
"Investigation is on," said Kotwali Police Station acting officer Abdul Karim.
