An official of the DC office of Meherpur district was killed in a road accident in the district early Monday.
The dead Asadul Islam Ziko, 40, son of late freedom fighter Abdul Wadud Hossain of Kulbaria village in Meherpur Sadar upazila, was an assistant of the confidential branch of the local government branch of Meherpur Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office.
He died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka around 12:30 am on Monday.
Earlier, on Saturday evening (January 4), he was returning to Meherpur from Mujibnagar riding on a motorcycle with a colleague. On the way, he was hit by a pick-up van at Kedarganj intersection and was seriously injured.
Locals rescued him and admitted him first to Mujibnagar Upazila Health Complex and later to Meherpur General Hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was later taken to a hospital in Dhaka. He died there at night while undergoing treatment.
Mujibnagar Police arrested the driver of the pick-up van immediately after the road accident. A case has also been registered with Mujibnagar Police Station in this regard.
