A young man was beaten to death on suspicion of battery theft in Laxmipur's Raipur upazila on Monday.
The incident took place in the morning at Kanchanpur of the upazila.
The dead was Abul Kalam, 40, of Kanchanpur village. He was a laborer by profession. He lived with his family in a rented house in Haiderganj Bazar of the upazila.
However, the deceased's wife, Rehana, alleged that some people abducted her husband from his rented house at night. Later, when she went to look for her husband in the morning, she found him injured in a garden in Kanchanpur. He died on the way to the Upazila Health Complex after being rescued.
Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan said, 'I got information that a man was being beaten up by a mob on charges of stealing a battery, I urged to rescue the injured man and bring him to hospital for treatment. Later, When police were sent to the hospital, they found that the injured man dead.'
The OC said that legal action will be taken after identifying those involved in the incident.
