Ex-IGP Mamun shown arrested in fresh murder case

Former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has been shown arrested in a case filed over killing of one Sabbir Hossain during the mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masuma Rahman passed the order on Monday as police produced the former IGP before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case.

According to the case documents, on July 18, Sabbir joined a procession of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Rabindra Swarani area at Uttara Sector-7.

All of a sudden, leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organisations attacked the protesters with firearms and other weapons. Sabbir got shot on his throat. He was taken to Uttara Crescent Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

On September 19, Sabbir's father filed a murder a case with Uttara West Police Station.

On September 3, detective branch (DB) of police arrested Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
