Police arrested two individuals in connection with the assault on Faruk Hasan, senior vice-president of Gono Odhikar Parishad, on Sunday night.
The arrestees were Korban Sheikh, also known as Hillol, 35, and Md Sharif, 27.
Asaduzzaman, Inspector (Investigation) of Shahbagh Police, said that that the two accused were found receiving treatment at the National Institute of Ophthalmology on Sunday night.
Being informed police went to the spot and arrested the accused from the hospital.
On Saturday, National Revolutionary Council organised a public event at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka. Faruk Hasan, who was addressing the gathering, was reportedly assaulted during his speech.
Later, Faruk druing a Facebook live claimed that activests of Chhatra Dal were behind the attack.
The police official said that a case was filed over the attack on Faruk.
