Ministry of Home Affairs has provided financial assistance of Tk 5 lakh to the family of late firefighter Md Sohanur Zaman Nayan, who died after being hit by a truck while he was on duty during a fire at the Secretariat in Dhaka on December 26.
Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) handed over the amount of the assistance to Nayan's father Md. Akhtaruzzaman at his office at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon, said a press release.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry Nasimul Ghani, Director General of Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence Brig Gen Muhammad Jahed Kamal, Nayan's only sister Seema Akhter and her family members were present.
Firefighter Md. Soanur Zaman Nayan, 24, hailed from Atpunia village of Barabala Union of in Mithapukur Upazila under Rangpur district, succumbed to his injuries in a hospital after being hit by a truck while crossing the road in the fire team's desperate bid to douse the fire at a Secretariat building on December 26.
Earlier, the family of the deceased Nayan was given a cash assistance of Tk 1 lakh and another Tk 50,000 for burial expenses by the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence on December 26 last.
He was a firefighter stationed at Tejgaon Fire Station.
