In a high-scoring encounter at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, the Rangpur Riders triumphed over the Sylhet Strikers by eight wickets in Match 9 of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-2025 successfully chasing a formidable target of 206 runs with eight balls to spare on Monday.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, the Riders faced an aggressive start from the Strikers. Openers Rony Talukdar and George Munsey propelled the Strikers to 47 runs within the initial five overs. Munsey's dismissal for 18, courtesy of Akif Javed, did little to stem the flow of runs as Rony continued his onslaught, who reached a brisk 54 off 32 deliveries featuring seven boundaries and three sixes before falling to Sheikh Mahedi Hasan.

Zakir Hasan then anchored the middle order with a steady 50 from 38 balls hitting four sixes, while Aaron Jones provided a late surge smashing 38 off just 19 deliveries. Jaker Ali's explosive cameo of 20 off five balls, which included five sixes, helped the Strikers cross the 200-run mark, finishing at an imposing 205 for four in their allotted 20 overs.

Mohammad Saifuddin was the Riders' most effective bowler claiming two wickets, while Akif Javed and Mahedi Hasan shared one wicket each.

In response, the Rangpur Riders made the chase look easy reaching 210 for two in just 18.4 overs despite losing opener Azizul Hakim for a duck in the first over. Alex Hales and Saif Hassan then orchestrated a remarkable recovery. Hales was in sublime form unleashing a barrage of boundaries to compile an unbeaten 113 off 56 balls featuring 10 fours and seven sixes. Saif complemented him perfectly with a blistering 80 from 49 deliveries, which included three fours and seven sixes. Their 186-run partnership for the second wicket effectively sealed the match.

The Strikers' bowlers struggled to make an impact, with Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Al-Amin Hossain each picking up a wicket but conceding heavily.

Alex Hales of Rangpur Riders was named the Player of the Match for his electrifying century, which played a pivotal role in the successful chase.
