The body was recovered from in front of Gutiabo Government Primary School in Sector-5 of Purbachal under the upazila in the morning.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mehedi Islam said that locals informed the police after seeing the body of the woman lying on the side of the road in the morning.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. A sharp knife used in the murder was also recovered from the scene.

Police assumed that miscreants might have killed the woman on Sunday night. The cooperation of CID and PBI has been sought to identify the deceased.

The incident took place at Ward No. 2 under Dhalai Union of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Nur Uddin, 50, a resident of the area.

Local Union Parishad (UP) Member Khokon said that Nur Uddin had been mentally disabled for a long time. Locals spotted his body from a branch of a tree behind his house in the evening and informed the matter to the police. Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to a hospital morgue for an autopsy, the UP member added.
