RAIPUR, LAXMIPUR, Jan 6: A man was beaten to death being suspected of stealing battery in Raipur Upazila of the district on Monday.
The incident took place at Kanchanpur of the upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam, 40, a resident of the area. He was a labourer by profession and lived with his family in a rented house in Haiderganj Bazar of the upazila.
The deceased's wife Rehana alleged that some people abducted her husband from the house on Sunday night. Later on, when she went to look for her husband in the morning, she found him injured in a garden in Kanchanpur. He died on the way to Raipur Upazila Health Complex after being rescued.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raipur Police Station Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan said, "I got information that a man was being beaten up by a mob on the charge of stealing a battery. I instructed to rescue the injured man and bring him to hospital for treatment. Later on, when police were sent to the hospital, they found that the injured man died."
However, legal action will be taken after identifying those involved in the incident, the OC added.
