NARAIL, Jan 6: A teenage boy was murdered allegedly over stealing a van in Lohagara Upazila of the district.

Police recovered his body on Sunday and detained three individuals including the primary suspect in connection with the crime.

Deceased Tamim Khan, 16, son of Rubel Khan of Habkhali Village in Narail Sadar Upazila, was a van-puller by profession. He had been missing since Friday last.

Later on, his body was recovered at around 11:30 am on Sunday, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station (PS) Md Ashikur Rahman.

According to Tamim's family and police, he was last seen taking Aminul on his van. When Tamim failed to return home, his family began a frantic search. A cousin later informed them he had seen Tamim with Aminul. On information, the family apprehended Aminul and reported the matter to police.

During interrogation, Aminul confessed to drugging Tamim by mixing sedatives in his food, strangling him to death and burying the body in Mashaghuni area of the upazila. He also admitted to selling the stolen van in the same area.

Following Aminul's confession, police recovered Tamim's body from the burial site and transferred Aminul to Lohagara PS. Two other individuals were also detained for their involvement in the illegal trade of the stolen van.

OC Md Ashikur Rahman further said that the body has been sent to Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy and further actions will be taken as part of the investigation.
