10 illegal brick kilns fined Tk 15 lakh in N'ganj

Department of Environment (DoE) has fined 10 illegal brick kilns a total of Tk 1.5 million for contributing to air pollution in Narayanganj's Fatullah upazila.

The operation, led by Executive Magistrate and Senior Assistant Secretary Md. Rezwan-ul-Islam of the DoE’s Monitoring and Enforcement Wing, took place at Boktabali area of the upazila throughout the day on Monday.  
The raid was supported by Deputy Director AHM Rashed and Assistant Director Md. Mobarak Hossain of the Narayanganj DoE office. 

The operation involved halting the operations of the brick kilns, imposing fines, and partially dismantling one of the kilns to ensure compliance. Assistance from Narayanganj district police facilitated the enforcement activities.  

A press release issued by the DoE in the evening detailed the fines imposed-- Tk 1 lakh each on New National Bricks-1, New National Bricks-2, Taj Bricks Manufacturing, Nizam Bricks and Bokhari Bricks; Tk 2 lakh each on Khadija Bricks, Bismillah Bricks, Sun Bricks, ASB Bricks and Nazrul Bricks. 

Additionally, the Nazrul Bricks kiln was partially demolished and its operations were completely halted.  

AHM Rashed, Deputy Director of Narayanganj DoE office, stated that the operation was conducted in accordance with the Brick Manufacturing and Brick Kilns Establishment (Control) Act, 2013 (amended in 2019). 

He emphasized that all the kilns were given strict orders to cease operations immediately and assured that actions against illegal kilns and air-polluting projects in Narayanganj would continue.
