Local Government Reform Commission Chairman Prof Tofail Ahmed on Monday opined that everyone including the teachers and staffers of the non-government schools and colleges should be given chance to contest the local government elections like union parishad.

While exchanging views with the electronic and print media representatives at National Local Government Institute in Agargaon, he expressed the opinion.

Prof Tofail said, "Everyone should be given the scope to contest in the member post of the local government. The teachers and other staff members of the non-government schools and colleges could be given chance to contest. If they were elected, their financial constraints would be lessened if they get scope to serve as part time local representative."

"Many people have been recommending holding local government elections before the national election. Many people say that they are not getting their services due to lack of public representatives after dissolving the elected councils recently. A vacuum has been created. It should be eliminated before the national election," he added.

He also emphasized on removing the problems of the women public representatives including budget constraints.
