AL leader held in Savar

Police arrested a local Awami League leader in connection with several cases filed over the killing of students during the recent Anti Discrimination Student Movement at Savar upazila in Dhaka.

The arrested AL leader is Md Monir Hossain alias Mobile Monir, a resident of Savar Sadar area and vice-president of the Sadar union Awami League. He is accused in several murder cases.

Police said that Monir took steps against the students during the movement, in which over 100 people were killed by the police and Awami League activists.

Acting on a tip-off, Monir was arrested from Savar City Center Shoping Mall at around 4:00PM, said Jweel Miah, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station.

He will be produced before the court with a remand-appeal on Wednesday morning, the OC added.
