Abahani beat Mohammedan after two years

Abahani fans finally got the chance to celebrate a win over archrival Mohammedan as the traditional sky blue jerseys managed to defeat the black and white outfits 1-0 in a group match of the Federation Cup football on Tuesday at the Cumilla District Stadium. 

The last time Abahani fans celebrated a win over the arch enemy was on 27 January in 2023. That 2-0 win was the last win they celebrated against Mohammedan in two years. 

In the time, the two faced each others six times where Mohammedan won four times and the remaining were draw matches. 

So, a win after so many days not only bring smile on the faces of the fans but also bring confidence to the Abahani boys who played the match without foreign players. 

In the 74th minute of the match, Abahani scored its match winning goal. A former striker of Mohammedan Shahriar Emon received a delivery from Shakil, another former midfielder of Mohammedan, and Abahani striker Ibrahim placed tje ball home with an amazing kick. 

However, the story could be different if Mohammedan was able to score in the 10th minute of the match. Abahani custodian Mitul Marma saved the team from digesting a goal then as Mohammedan striker tried to utilise a corner of Solaiman Diyabate. 
 
Winning the match, Abahani also topped the group point table and came near the round of four. Losing the match, Mohammedan is in danger of relegation from the round.
