Bangladesh has made progress in global mobile internet speed rankings, as revealed by a recent report of Ookla's Speedtest Global Index for November.
The country now ranks 88th out of 111 nations, moving up from 89th in October. The report also noted an improvement in Bangladesh's average mobile internet download speed, which rose to 28.26 Mbps in November from 27.56 Mbps in the previous month, said the report published in media website..
Leading the global list, the United Arab Emirates retained its top position with an average mobile internet speed of 441.89 Mbps in November, an increase from 428.53 Mbps in October. This highlights the UAE's consistent commitment to providing ultra-fast mobile internet.
India, a neighboring country, ranked 25th globally with an average download speed of 100.78 Mbps in November, up from 95.67 Mbps in October. This improvement saw India climb one spot from its previous 26th position.
Among other South Asian nations, Maldives ranked 28th, while Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Myanmar occupied 97th, 100th, 110th, and 111th places, respectively.
Bangladesh's mobile internet services are mainly provided by Banglalink, Grameenphone, Robi and Teletalk.
Among these, Banglalink stood out as the fastest service provider, with 89 per cent of its speed tests demonstrating a minimum download speed of 5 Mbps and an upload speed of at least 1 Mbps.
The report also showed progress in fixed broadband performance. Bangladesh climbed two spots to rank 99th globally among 155 countries, improving from its previous position of 101st.
The median fixed broadband download speed increased to 48.91 Mbps in November, compared to 48.06 Mbps in October.
