The rundown ceiling of the Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall at Dhaka University (DU) collapsed on a sleeping student, Masud Rana.
The incident left him critically injured on the head and reignited protests against the deplorable condition of the hall.
On Tuesday, residential students of the hall staged a protest and held a demonstration in front of the Vice Chancellor's residence reacting to the incident.
In the wee hours of Tuesday morning when Masud, a 2018-19 session student, was sleeping in Room No 204 at Mohsin Hall a large chunk of plaster from the ceiling fell on him.
Farhad Zubair, Masud's roommate and a student of Peace and Conflict Studies, described the incident, "Masud bhai was under a mosquito net when the plaster collapsed, cutting his head in two places."
Masud was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors said he was out of danger.
Farhad added, "We repeatedly informed the hall administration about the dilapidated ceiling, but no action was taken."
In response, students marched from Mohsin Hall to the Raju Memorial Sculpture and marched towards the Vice Chancellor's residence and protested in front of the house, demanding immediate action.
