BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia left Dhaka for London on Tuesday from Hazrat Shahjalal Interna-tional Airport boarding a Qatar Royal Family air ambulance.

The Airbus A319 equipped with advance medical facilities, landed in Dhaka on Tuesday night to transport BNP Chairperson.

"While specific details of the aircraft remain confidential for security reasons, I can confirm it is modelled on the Airbus A319," an official at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), speaking on condition of anonymity to the media.

The air ambulance has the capacity for managing critical and long-distance patient transfers with exceptional care and efficiency.

She is accompanied by her medical team of six doctors from her medical board and four air ambulance specialists, several party members and family members, including her late son Arafat Rahman Koko's wife Syeda Sharmila Rahman, her Advisory Council member Enamul Haque Chowdhury; BNP Executive Committee member Tabith Awal; her private secretary ABM Abdus Sattar; and staff and caregivers.

"Khaleda Zia will directly board the air ambulance," said Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP Standing Committee.

After landing in London, she is expected to be admitted to a London clinic.

Following initial treatment, she may travel to the John Hopkins University Hospital in Maryland, USA, for further medical care, according to party insiders.

BNP Standing Committee Members and other leaders visited Khaleda at her residence to extend their greetings before she leaves for the airport.

Thousands of people gathered outside the Gulshan residence. The crowd consisting mainly of BNP leaders and activists, filled the streets near her home, showing deep love, affection and support for their beloved ailing leader.

Supporters chanted slogans, expressing their well-wishes for Khaleda's recovery.

The scene outside her residence was marked by both solidarity and concern, as her supporters gathered in large numbers to see her off.

The large turnout caused traffic disruptions around the BNP chief's residence, leading to public inconvenience.

According to the route plan, the BNP chief will travel to the airport from her residence, Firoza, via the Gulshan-2 intersection and Banani-Kakoli crossing.

To ensure security during Khaleda's departure, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has taken special measures, including deployment of an adequate number of law enforcement personnel from the Airport Armed Police, RAB, DMP, DB and SWAT teams.

Leaders expressed concern that BNP's 16-year-long political struggle is being overlooked.

Earlier on Monday, BNP standing committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said Khaleda Zia will be directly admitted to "The London Clinic, an advanced medical centre in London, after arriving at Heathrow International Airport in the UK."

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, his wife, and BNP leaders will welcome Khaleda upon her arrival at Heathrow Airport.

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has arranged for a special air ambulance from the royal fleet after learning of Khaleda's illness.

Tarique Rahman and his family have been living in London since 2008. This will be Khaleda Zia's second overseas medical trip, following her 2017 visit to London for treatment.

This will be her first reunion with her son Tarique in seven years, and her first overseas visit since she was freed from jail.

The 79 years old Khaleda Zia has been battling multiple health issues, including liver cirrhosis, diabetes, arthritis and complications involving her kidneys, lungs, heart and eyes.
