11 killed, dozens injured in road, rail accidents

At least 11 people were killed and dozens of others injured in separate road and train accidents in Faridpur, Naogaon, Gazipur and Noakhali on Tuesday. 

Our Faridpur  Correspondent reports that five people were killed and at least four others injured after a train hit a microbus at Kafura Level Crossing in Faridpur on Tuesday afternoon. The injured were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Three died on the spot, while two others at the hospital on arrival. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. It was learnt that there were nine persons, including the driver, inside the microbus. 

Eyewitness said a 'Madhomati Express' train was heading towards Dhaka from Khulna via Faridpur. And the microbus was heading towards Munshibazar from Narayanganj. The collision between the two vehicles occurred at about 12:15pm at the Kafura Level Crossing. After the collision, the microbus fell into a roadside ditch.

Our Naogaon Correspondent added that two people were killed in a road accident on the Naogaon-Mohadevpur regional highway in Mohadevpur upazila of Naogaon on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were Fardin Hossain, son of Manik Hossain from South Hosainpur village in Mohadevpur upazila and Rezwan Islam, son of Shariful Islam from Shyampur village.

Hashmat Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohadevpur Police Station, said Fardin and Rezwan were returning to Mohadevpur from Naogaon sadar on a motorcycle at around 10:00am.

The motorbike crashed into a truck parked by the roadside, leaving Fardin Hossain dead on the spot, he said.

Rezwan was rescued and taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. The OC said the bodies will be handed over to their families for burial after the legal process.

Our Gazipur Correspondent adds three people were killed and three others injured in a collision between a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a truck at Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur district on Tuesday. 

The tragic accident occurred on Tuesday around 4:30pm at Chairman Bazar area of Chapair union along the Kaliakoir-Fulbaria-Mawna regional road. The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

According to locals, the auto-rickshaw driver, Karim Mia, was heading toward Kaliakoir with five passengers. As the vehicle reached Chairman Bazar area, a truck travelling from Kaliakoir to Fulbaria collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw. The impact crushed the auto-rickshaw, killing Nayan, one of the passengers, on the spot.  

The five injured individuals were rushed to the Kaliakoir Upazila Health Complex, where two more succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.  

Kaliakoir Police Station Officer-in-Charge Riad Mahmud confirmed the incident, stating, "Three people were killed, and three others injured in the collision between the CNG auto-rickshaw and the truck this afternoon. The injured are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Necessary legal actions will be taken regarding the incident."  

Our Noakhali Correspondent writes a local journalist was killed in a motorcycle-CNG-powered auto-rickshaw collision in Noakhali.

The incident occurred on Monday evening in front of the Sadar Upazila Parishad on the Sonapur-Maijdee road and the victim breathed his last around 2:00am on Tuesday.  

The deceased, Mizanur Rahman Kiran, 60, was a resident of Padua village in Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali. He worked as the Kabirhat Upazila correspondent of the Daily Samaj Sangbad and was known for his contributions to social and humanitarian causes.
