The interim government is going to increase supplementary duty on mobile phone services to 23 per cent from 20 per cent.
A notification in this regard may be issued soon.
According to National Board of Revenue (NBR) sources, the government's top level has approved the issue of increasing the supplementary duty by another three per cent in addition to the existing supplementary duty on mobile phone services.
Two ministries also gave their positive opinion about it.
It was learnt that during the Awami League government, the supplementary duty on mobile phone services was increased from 15 per cent to 20 per cent in the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. Accordingly, currently, if you recharge Tk 100 on a mobile phone, you have to pay Tk 28.1 in supplementary duty, VAT and surcharge. You have to pay Tk 6.1 in revenue share and minimum tax, and Tk 20.4 in indirect tax. That is, if the customer recharges Tk 100 taka, the total tax deducted is Tk 54.6.
If the interim government increases the supplementary duty by another three per cent, you will have to pay Tk 56.3 in tax.
