ACC asked to seize tax files of Benazir's wife, daughter, DB Harun

A court in Dhaka has ordered the authorities concerned to seize tax files of former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed's wife, his daughter, former head of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Harun or Rashid and his brother ABM Shahriar.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders on Wednesday allowing separate pleas of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to the sources, ACC deputy director and investigation officer Muhammad Joynal Abedin filed two petitions mentioned that The ACC in its plea said Jishan Mirza concealed information about wealth of Tk16 crore and kept properties of Tk 31.69 crore under her possession. Besides, Benazir's daughter Tahsin is accused of keeping properties of Tk 5.59 crore under her possession. The petition stated that these assets acquired by illegal way. Therefore, he pleaded for the seizure of tax files of Benazir's wife Jishan Mirza and daughter Tahsin Raisa Binte Benazir.
ACC public prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir moved the pleas before the court.

Meanwhile, the same court ordered to seize tax files of Harun or Rashid and his brother ABM Shahriar after ACC Deputy Director Muhammad Joynul Abedin filed the two petitions.

According to the petition, former DB chief acquired properties of Tk 17.51 crore illegally and kept those under his possession, while his brother acquired and kept properties of Tk 12.96 crore, under his possession. Public prosecutor Ruhul Islam Khan moved the pleas before the court.
