A Juba League leader has been placed on a three-day remand in a case filed over murder of one Md Ali during the July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman passed the order, as police produced Nazrul Islam Kabiraj, vice-president of Dhaka South City ward-56 Juba League, before the court and pleaded for seven-day remand.

Earlier, on January 1, locals detained Nazrul and handed him over to police.

According to the case documents, on July 19, Md Ali joined anti-discrimination student procession in Azimpur Colony area. At around 4 pm, police and Awami League activists attacked them and opened fire at the protesters, leaving Ali bullet injured.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead.

On December 30, a case was filed with Lalbagh Police Station in this connection.
