Two college students lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the Meherpur-Kushtia regional highway in Meherpur's Gangni upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 PM when the motorcycle, the students were riding, collided with a Rafraf Paribahan bus, according to Gangni Police Station officer-in-charge Bani Israel.
The victims were identified as Siam Hossain, 18, and Abdullahel Baki, 18, both residents of Pirtala village. Siam was son of Alek Hossain, a Saudi expatriate, while Baki was son of Sohrab Hossain alias Sentu, also a Saudi expatriate. Both were Class XI students at Kushtia Islamia College.
Siam died instantly at the scene, while Baki was rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Local residents detained the bus involved in the collision and handed it over to the police.
The bodies of the deceased will be transferred to the 250-bed General Hospital in Meherpur for necessary procedures, OC Bani Israel confirmed.
