Winter clothes were distributed among the cold-hit destitute people in four districts - Gaibandha, Dinajpur, Moulvibazar and Patuakhali.
GAIBANDHA: With the increasing intensity of cold wave Sundarganj Upazila administration intensified the distribution of blankets to the distressed people and hard to reach char people of the upazila in last few days.
Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Md Mashiar Rahman said that the cold wave has been seeping over the upazila since last few days creating untold sufferings to the poor and distressed people including the char ones.
To mitigate their sufferings, the upazila administration has stood by the cold-affected people of 15 unions and a municipality of the upazila with warm clothes and is distributing blankets the cold victims, he also said.
Till January 07, as many as 6,650 pieces of blankets had already been distributed to the cold victims of the upazila, he added.
Inmates of the Lillah boardings and orphanages of the upazila have also been brought under blankets distribution activity of the upazila administration.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nazir Hossain said that as the people, particularly the aged ones of different chars, are the most sufferers, the chairmen and members of local government bodies have been asked to ensure blankets for the cold-affected char people.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Mohammad Shafiqul Islam said that similar activities are also going on in other six upazilas of the district.
GHORAGHAT, DINAJPUR: Bangladesh Army distributed 200 blankets among the cold-hit poor people in Ghoraghat Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
On behalf of 66 Padatik Division of Bangladesh Army, Captain Raihan-ul-Hasan of Kholahati Cantonment in Rangpur handed over the blankets to the recipients in Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad hallroom.
Ghoraghat UNO Rafiqul Islam, Upazila PIO Sujon Mia, Singra Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Sazzat Hossain and Palsha UP Chairman Kabirul Islam Pradhan, among others, were also present during the distribution.
KULAURA, MOULVIBAZAR: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) distributed winter clothes among more than 300 helpless people in Kulaura Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
Sreemangal Battalion of 46 BGB organized the distribution programme in Chaltapur area of the upazila in the morning.
BGB's Sreemangal Sector Commander Colonel AHM Yasin Chowdhury was present there as the chief guest.
Commander of 46 BGB Sreemangal Battalion Lt Col ASM Zakaria, among others, also attended the programme.
MIRZAGANJ, PATUAKHALIL: A total of 300 orphan students of three madrasas and 200 cold-hit helpless people in Mirzaganj Upazila of the district were given blankets on Wednesday.
United Commercial Bank (UCB) PLC distributed 500 blankets at Mirzaganj Yaria Alim Madrasa auditorium.
Mirzaganj UNO Md Tariqul Islam was present as the chief guest while UCB Bank PLC's Subidkhali Branch Manager Md Rakibul Hasan presided over the distribution programme.
Upazila Education Officer Md Shahidul Islam, General Secretary of Hazrat Yaruddin Khalifa Shaheb (R) Mazar Waqf Estate Md Shahidul Islam alias Faisal Mallick, Principal of Yaria Alim Madrasa Maulana AKM Habibur Rahman, Operation Manager of Subidkhali Branch of UCB Bank PLC Obaidur Rahman, and its Credit Officer Md Raihan Abde Rabbi, among others, were also present during the distribution.
