JnU Teachers' Assos issues 72-hr ultimatum following attack on proctor

The Jagannath University Teachers' Association (JnUTA) has demanded justice within 72 hours for the attack on Proctor Professor Dr. Muhammad Tazammol Hoque, calling for the perpetrators to be apprehended, an investigation committee to be formed, and all bus and laguna stands near the university to be removed.

The ultimatum was announced during a human chain protest organized at the university's Shaheed Minar premises on Wednesday (January 8) at noon in response to the attack on the proctor.

During the protest, teachers emphasized, "Within 72 hours, all individuals involved in this attack must be brought under the law, a university-led investigation committee must be formed, and all bus and laguna stands near the university, including those at Ray Saheb Bazar, must be removed. An attack on teachers or students is equivalent to an attack on the university itself. We demand exemplary punishment for those responsible for the attack on the proctor. During the incident, the attackers reportedly said, 'We couldn't find the students, so we will beat the teachers,' indicating a premeditated plan and posing a significant threat to the university."

The General Secretary of JnUTA and Chairman of the Islamic Studies Department, Professor Md. Rais Uddin, remarked, "The attack on Professor Dr. Muhammad Tazammol Hoque might be a deliberate act orchestrated by political agents. JnUTA demands that all those involved in the attack be brought under the law within 72 hours. Additionally, a committee must investigate whether any university teacher or student was involved in the incident. Furthermore, the university administration must ensure the removal of all bus and laguna stands near Ray Saheb Bazar within this timeframe."

JnUTA President and Chairman of the Management Studies Department, Professor Md. Mosharraf Hossain, added, "Such incidents are entirely unacceptable. If our demands are not met, we will be compelled to take stricter measures. JnUTA will always remain vigilant to ensure the safety and security of the entire Jagannath University community."

On the evening of December 6, miscreants attacked the car of Jagannath University Proctor and Professor of the Islamic Studies Department, Dr. Muhammad Tazammol Hoque, near Tatibazar in Old Dhaka. Both the proctor and his driver were injured during the attack. Three individuals were immediately detained in connection with the incident.
