In a major development, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday revealed that it found clear evidence of power abuse and acquisition of wealth against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain disclosed this development to the media while talking to reporters at the commission headquarters.
In response to a reporter's query, Akhtar said that the investigations into various allegations of corruption against Sheikh Hasina are ongoing.
"Our investigation team is working on it, collecting documents from various offices. So far, we have gathered substantial information. We hope to share good news with you soon," he said.
Earlier on December 24, the ACC sought financial records of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members as well as documents related to eight mega projects following allegations of fund mismanagement and misuse amounting to Tk 21,000 crore.
The commission sought evidence from the Chief Adviser's Office on eight development projects suspected.
Among the accusations are fraudulent activities tied to major initiatives such as the Ashrayan Project, BEZA, and BEPZA.
Mirsharai Economic Zone, Khurushkul Special Ashrayan Project, BEPZA Economic Zone in Mirsharai, and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City are also in the ACC's targets.
Allegations of irregularities in water treatment facilities and an Indian Economic Zone within Mirsharai have also surfaced.
ACC sources revealed that every financial detail has been requested, from approved budgets and disbursements to expenditures and timelines.
