Four members of the same family were killed and seven others injured as an ambulance caught fire following a gas cylinder blast after being hit by two buses at Police Town in Savar early Thursday.
The accident occurred around 2 am on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in front of Fulbaria Police Town in Savar.
However, the identities of the dead could not be known yet.
According to Fire Service, said that a Dhaka-bound ambulance was hit
by two buses from behind. The ambulance's gas cylinder exploded and caught fire.
Later, the fire spread to the ambulance and two passenger buses.
Four people who were in the ambulance were burnt to death after the blast, said Savar Fire Service In-charge Meherul Islam.
Two busses also caught fire after collision with the ambulance, leaving seven people injured, he added.
On information, two units of Savar Fire Service reached the spot and brought the fire under control after about an hour of effort.
Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saugatul Alam said the fire service recovered the bodies of four people from the scene in burnt condition. However, their identities have not been confirmed yet.
The bodies were sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital for identification and autopsy.
