A court in Dhaka has imposed travel ban on five people, including former railways minister Mujibul Haque, over graft allegations brought by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders on Thursday, allowing separate pleas of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The four other accused are --former Bogura-2 lawmaker Md Shariful Islam Zinnah and his wife Mohsina Akter, Regency Hotel and Resort Chairman Musleh Uddin Ahmed and his wife Jebunnesa.
According to plea filed by ACC, Mujibul Haque allegedly amassed huge illegal wealth in the names of his and his family members' through tender rigging and appointing people in different offices taking huge money.
The investigation against Mujibul is going on, the anti-graft body suspected that the accused could take attempt to flee the country.
Besides, in another plea ACC said Zinnah and his wife acquired properties of Tk 2.61 crore illegally, transferred and transformed the properties.
The couple is trying to flee the country, so ban have to be imposed against them to make them to face justice.
Besides, ACC deputy director Meftahul Zannat made a plea to the court and informed that ACC has formed a team to investigate the allegation of accumulating illegal assets against Regency Hotel and Resort Chairman Musleh and his wife Jebunnesa.
According to the documents, Musleh Uddin with his family members is trying to leave the country secretly, that will pose difficulties in getting important documents related to the allegation .
Therefore, the ACC pleaded that necessary measures through special branch of police should be taken upon the consent of the court. After hearing, the court approved the plea.
