Dearness allowance for government officials and employees will be announced by June 30, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Dr Md Mokhlesur Rahman has said.
The secretary made the statement while speaking to reporters at the Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital on Thursday.
However, he did not disclose the percentage of the dearness allowance to be announced.
Rahman, who is also a member of the Dearness Allowance Review Committee, further said that two meetings have already been held regarding the matter.
He added that pensioners will also receive the dearness allowance this time which they did not get in the past.
Besides, the secretary clarified that the dearness allowance, once announced, will be added to the basic salary during the upcoming increment.
Regarding the specific percentage of the allowance, he advised reporters to consult the finance adviser and the finance secretary for further details.
He also did not provide any information on whether the current five percent incentive for government employees would continue after the dearness allowance is announced.
"It is not right to speculate on this matter," he said. "You can talk to the finance adviser and the finance secretary for more information."
