Unbeatable Riders prolong winning spree sealing last ball thriller

Rangpur Riders clinched their sixth consecutive victory edging past Fortune Barishal by three wickets in a nail-biting BPL encounter at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Opting to field first, Rangpur faced a stiff challenge as Fortune Barishal set a formidable total of 197 for five in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto laid a solid foundation with an 81-run opening stand. Tamim contributed a steady 40 off 34 balls, while Shanto added a brisk 41 off 30 deliveries. The innings was later anchored by Kyle Mayers, who smashed an unbeaten 61 off just 29 balls including seven boundaries and a six showcasing his aggressive intent. 

Tawhid Hridoy chipped in with 23 off 18 balls, while Faheem Ashraf added a late blitz scoring 20 off just six deliveries featuring a boundary and two sixes.

Kamrul Islam Rabbi was the standout bowler for Rangpur claiming two wickets for 47 runs. Mohammad Saifuddin and Akif Javed chipped in with a wicket apiece.

In their chase, Rangpur Riders stumbled early losing opener Alex Hales cheaply for just 1 run. However, Tawfique Khan steadied the innings with a composed 38 off 28 balls. The middle order led by Pakistani recruits Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah kept the chase alive with vital contributions of 48 runs each.

The turning point of the match came in the final over with Rangpur needing 26 runs. Captain Nurul Hasan delivered an explosive cameo smashing 32 runs off just seven balls including three sixes and three fours. His heroics propelled Rangpur to a thrilling victory finishing at 202 for 7 with a ball to spare.

For Barishal, Jahandad Khan picked up two crucial wickets, while Tanvir Islam, Shaheen Afridi, Faheem Ashraf and Rishad Hossain took a wicket each.

Nurul Hasan Shohan's sensational knock earned him the Player of the Match award cementing Rangpur Riders' dominance in the tournament.
