Students demand relocation of makeshift court from Alia Madrasa premises

Students of Govt Madrasa-e-Alia in Bakshibazar staged a protest on Thursday demanding the relocation of the makeshift court set up on their premises for holding the trial of the BDR carnage.
After around 10 hours' of protest, students lifted their siege and left the Bakshibazar road in the capital.

Hundreds of students gathered in front of the madrasa, blocking the road and disrupting traffic movement. Before that, a fire broke out in the makeshift courtroom located on the madrasa grounds.
Now, vehicles movement in the area became normal which was suspended since Wednesday night following the blockade.

The Judge of the Metropolitan Special Tribunal-2 of Dhaka was seen to enter the court after the protest ended.

The protesting students left the road on condition that they will get an opportunity of discussing the issue with the Judge.

The students have been staging protest since Wednesday night demanding the relocation of the makeshift court set up on their premises for holding the trial of the BDR carnage. Police were able to remove them from the road at 11:00am.

Lima Khanam, Duty Officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters said, "We received information at 4:22am that a fire had erupted in a courtroom set up on the premises of Govt Madrasa-e-Alia. Two firefighting units were dispatched to extinguish the blaze.

Rezaul Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Chawkbazar Police Station, said they are investigating the matter to determine if there is any underlying cause behind the fire.

Members of the army and police were deployed in the Alia Madrasa area to manage the situation and persuade the students to disperse from the road.
