BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Thursday, "A bad competition has emerged in the country to cling to state power."

Speaking at unveiling the book 'Rajbondir Jobanbondhi' at BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office he said, "Since Hasina fled on August-5, we don't know why we could not restore our  faith on unity. It is not a healthy practice, a sick competition has started to stay in power."

Edited by former Vice Chancellor Prof Emajuddin Ahmed, the book chronicles Khaleda Zia's deposition in court under Section 342 in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

Fakrhrul said, "A political party  can grow strong only when it can bring stability in the country. That is why we repeatedly said we are the first political party that began reforms in the country."

He said, "Ziaur Rahman established  multi-party democracy, freedom of press, free market economy and 19-point reforms in the country."

Fakhrul said, "Some people are trying to divide the people. They are sending divisive and inciting messages. Please don't step into their trap."

"I will request political leaders and activists not create division in the country," he said.

Fakhrul said, "To save the country and to restore democracy unity is indispensible."

He said, "Reforms are definitely  needed. But only an elected government can bring sustainable reforms."

Fakhrul said, "Without parliament, we can never legitimise reforms. We don't want to get into a debate about that. We call upon the democracy-loving people to remain united and divided."

Referring to Khaleda Zia's visit to London for medical treatment, Mirza Fakhrul said, "Our national leader Begum Khaleda Zia is in London to receive  medical treatment with love of millions of people."

He expressed gratitude to the Amir of Qatar and the UK governments for facilitating Khaldeda Zia's medical treatment.

He requested all to read the book, saying , "If you read the book, you will find the history of political oppression in Bangladesh."

A number of online activists of nationalist ideology who were vocal during the anti-fascist movement  attended  the book unveiling. All of them were imprisoned by the Hasina regime.

Among them, Humayun Kabir, Abdur Rahman Noor, Rezwanul Haque, Shipon Ahmed, Wasim Iftekharul Haque, Kajal Rahman spoke about torture by the fascist Hasina government.

Fakhrul thanked online activists saying  "Those who fought, went to jail, were tortured played important role during  the anti fascist movement using online platforms."

He said, "The struggle of the people, students, youth and women will not go  in vain. We are together."

Mirza Fakhrul said that Khaleda Zia did not come into politics because of the temptation of power, she came to politics, knowing well that there was  no opportunity for her to be Prime Pinister. She came to politics to  free the nation from tyranny.

Referring to Khaleda Zia as freedom fighter, Mirza Fakhrul said, "When I call Khaleda Zia a brave freedom  fighter, the fascists get angry with me."
