Four people have died and four others fell sick after consuming homemade alcohol in Rajshahi.
Three of the victims died in the Mohanpur Upazila of Rajshahi on Wednesday, and one died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Thursday.
Dr Sankar K Biswas, spokesperson for RMCH, said the condition of the four patients in the hospital is stable and they are under observation.
The deceased are Mohammad Toton, 40, from Durgapur village in Mohanpur upazila, Montaz Ali, 40, from the same village, Mohammad Jewel, 35, from Karisha village, and Atowar Hossain, 35, a resident of Ganeshpur village in Mandal Upazila of Naogaon.
Helena Akhter, additional superintendent of Rajshahi police, said two people have been arrested in connection with the incident. The arrestees were Mukul, 39, from Motihar village, and Joni, 42, of Dhopaghata village.
Meanwhile, Masum Rana, son one of the victims, filed a case in this connection.
She said police are investigating the matter and efforts to arrest others involved in the incident.
After completing legal formalities, police handed the body over to the family. Later, the bodies of the deceased were buried with police permission.
