Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a Bangladeshi as he allegedly tried to cross over to India through Panchagarh border with some foreign currencies.
The arrest took place on Thursday night, said BGB sources on Friday morning.
Arrested Faim Sayed Ahmed, 47, hails from Paschim Tallabagh area of Rayer Bazar in Dhaka.
Panchagarh BGB-18 Battalion commandant Lt. Col Monirul Islam said a patrolling team detained Faim with some local and foreign currencies including of the US, India, and China, while trying to trespass into India through Amtalli border of Sadar upazila around 9:30pm on Thursday.
The foreign currencies recovered from his possession are equivalent to Tk 55, 888, he said, adding that two mobile phone sets were also seized from his possession.
Faim was handed over to the relevant Panchagarh Sadar police station where a case was lodged against him, he said.
Drives to curb infiltration, smuggling, drug peddling and other crimes will remain continued, the BGB official added.
