Unclaimed bodies of 6 individuals killed in July uprising still lying at morgue

Unclaimed bodies of six people killed during the mass uprising are still lying at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue, said the July Mass Uprising Special Cell of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on Friday (January 10).

Since the dead bodies have not been possible to identify yet, these have been kept at the mortuary of the morgue after postmortem.
Information of the bodies available are: Unidentified male (20), unidentified male (25), unidentified male (22), unidentified female (32), unidentified male (30) and Enamul (25).

 It has been stated in a press release signed by Zahid Ahsan, cell secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The press release was sent on Friday (January 10).

The press release has also requested to contact the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue if the relative of someone has been still missing since the beginning of the movement in July-August.


It was stated that the Special Cell on July Mass Uprising of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement learnt that the unclaimed bodies of six individuals martyred during the mass uprising were lying at the Dhaka Medical College morgue. A team of the cell went to Shahbagh Police Station on Friday morning to collect detailed information about the victims. Shahbagh Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Khalid Mansur confirmed that six dead bodies were still lying at the Dhaka Medical College Forensic Mortuary. Then the Special Cell Team went to the Dhaka Medical College Forensic Mortuary and witnessed the dead bodies.

It was also stated in the press release that the postmortem of the dead bodies was conducted. In the postmortem, the reason behind the deaths of five individuals was mentioned as "death due to injuries," while the death of another individual (Enamul) was cited as "death due to falling from above." The DNAs of the dead bodies were collected. At the same time, evidence of the clothing of the dead bodies was collected. All the dead bodies have been kept at the Dhaka Medical College Forensic Mortuary.

Besides, the press release stated: "On behalf of Shahbagh Police Station, we have been told that the dead bodies were from the Anti-Discrimination Movement. However, they didn't make it clear when and on which dates they brought the dead bodies. The Anti-Discrimination Movement, interim government and the authorities concerned request to hand over the dead bodies to their respective families. In such a situation, if anyone of the above mentioned ages of the bodies remains missing, their families are requested to contact the July Mass Uprising Special Cell of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
