COX'S BAZAR, Jan 10: A Swechchhasebak League leader of Khulna City was reportedly shot to death by unidentified miscreants at Cox's Bazar sea beach on Thursday night.
Deceased Golam Rabbani Tipu, 55, son of Md Golam Akbar, was a resident of Daulatpur area in Khulna City. He was a vice-president of Khulna City unit Swechchhasebak League and also a former councillor of Ward No. 4 of Khulna City Corporation.
Officer-in-Charge of Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Ilias Khan said that the killing took place at the Seagull point of the beach at around 8 pm.
Abdus Salam Babu, an auto-rickshaw driver who took Tipu to a hospital, he heard a loud bang near the Seagull Point and a person collapse after that but did not see anyone there.
Dr SM Shoaib of the hospital said, Tipu sustained a fatal gunshot wound in the head. Tipu was declared dead upon arrival, he added.
Additional Superintendent of Police in Cox's Bazar Jasim Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the incident, adding that several police teams and intelligence agencies are working on the matter.
