5 nabbed with drugs in Kurigram, Ctg

Five people were arrested along with drugs in separate drives in two districts - Kurigram and Chattogram.

PHULBARI, KURIGRAM: Three drug dealers were detained along with 18 kilograms of hemp in separate drives in Phulbari Upazila of the district.

Police arrested a man along with 15 kilograms of hemp from the upazila on Friday.

The arrested person is Shafiqul Islam, 42, son of late Kachu Mamud, a resident of Shimulbari area in the upazila. 

Police sources said that on information, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Khejurer Tol area under Borobhita Union at noon, and detained Shafiqul along with the hemp. 

After filing of a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Phulbari Police Station (PS), the arrested was sent to jail in the afternoon following a court order.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the PS Mamunur Rashid confirmed the matter.

Earlier, police, in another drive, arrested two drug peddlers along with three kilograms of hemp from the upazila on Thursday. 
The arrested men are: Polash, 23, and Iqbal Hossain, 24. Both of them are residents of Sadar Upazila in Pabna.

Phulbari PS OC Mamunur Rashid said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforcers conducted a drive in Kadamtala Chandrakhana border area of the upazila at noon and arrested the duo along with the hemp. 

Later on, the arrest people were sent to jail after filing of a case against them under the Narcotics Control Act, the OC added.

CHATTOGRAM: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two drug peddlers along with 47 bottles of foreign liquor from Bayezid PS area in the city on Thursday. A private car and a motorcycle were also seized.

The arrestees are: Saiful Islam, 38, son of late Zakir Hossain of Badarpur area, a resident of Mehendiganj Upazila in Barishal; and Md Sumon, 32, son of late Chan Mia, hails from Shalla Deopur area under Kalihati Upazila in Tangail.

They were arrested from Arefin Nagar Kitchen Market area under Bayezid PS at around 1 pm.

According to RAB sources, the arrested men usually collect foreign liquor from the border area of Feni District and sell it to the people of the city.

RAB-7 Acting Deputy Director (Media) Sadman Sakib (AMC) said that on information, the elite force arrested two people along with 47 bottles of foreign liquor from Arefin Nagar Kitchen Market area in the city. 

They were then handed over to the PS concerned after legal proceedings against them, the RAB official added.
