MANIKGANJ, Jan 10: Police arrested two people along with a dredger machine for illegally lifting sand from the Jamuna River in Shivalaya Upazila of the district on Thursday.
The arrested men are: Md Sahabuddin, 50, hails from Barishal District; and Ariful Islam Helal, 35, from Rajbari District.
Daulatida River Police Outpost In-Charge Md Emran Mahmud Tuhin confirmed the information in a press release.
He said that acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo along with the dredger.
The estimate value of the seized is around Tk 65 lakh.
A case was filed with Shivalaya Police Station against them in this connection, the police official added.
