Clashes at CEPZ leave 50 injured

At least 50 people were injured in clashes among the workers of three readymade garment factories in the Chattogram Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) on Saturday.
 
Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of EPZ Police Station, said that the clash broke out after a disagreement between workers of the factories over opening a factory's main gate. The argument escalated into a clash, when workers of the factories started hurling brickbats to each other at around 9AM. Many people were injured and taken to hospital.

The army members were deployed to control the situation as the conflict continued for hours. Further details will be shared following an investigation, the OC said, adding that the situation is currently under control.

Several workers were injured and taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Among the injured the condition of two are critical, according to the witnesses.

Chattogram EPZ Executive Director Abdus Sobhan said that several people were injured during the clashes. Law enforcement has been deployed to control the situation.
