Police have arrested the drivers of two vehicles in connection with a road accident that killed four passengers, including a woman and a child, in Savar on Wednesday.
The arrestees are ambulance driver Zahid Hasan, son of Aynal Haque from Suti Langal Jora village in Tangail district, and driver of a bus of ‘Shyamoli Paribahan’ Zahirul Islam, son of the late Golam Sarwar from Chawlia village under Birganj police station, Dinajpur district.
Saugatul Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Savar Highway Police Station, said that acting on a tip-off, police arrested the bus driver Zahirul from Gabtoli Bus Terminal in Dhaka, while ambulance driver Zahid from Konabari, Gazipur on Saturday.
Both were sent to the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court with a request for a seven-day remand.
Earlier, on Wednesday (January 8), an ambulance, carrying a family from Tangail to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment, was struck by two buses of Jhumur Paribahan and Shyamoli Paribahan on the Dhaka-Aricha highway near the Police Town area at around 2AM, leaving four people dead and seven others injured.
