The Faculty of Life Sciences at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) inaugurated the third edition of the International Conference on the Advancement of Life Sciences on Saturday.
The two-day event, held in the university's academic building, brought together scholars and researchers from around the globe to discuss advancements and innovations in life sciences.
The conference was inaugurated by the chief guest, Professor Dr. Hossain Uddin Shekhar, Vice-Chancellor of Gopalganj Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University. Special guests included Professor Dr. S. M. Abdul-Awal, Vice-Chancellor of Pabna Science and Technology University and Professor Dr. Md. Roknuzzaman, Vice-Chancellor of Jamalpur Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University.
Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Azim Akhand, Vice-Chancellor of MBSTU, chaired the event, while Professor Dr. Md. Omar Faruk, Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, welcomed the participants with an inspiring address.
During the opening speeches, the dignitaries highlighted the pivotal role of life sciences in advancing health, environmental sustainability, and societal well-being. They emphasized the importance of international collaboration in addressing global challenges such as disease prevention, environmental conservation, and food security. The speakers also lauded the significant contributions of life sciences to groundbreaking fields such as genetic engineering, biotechnology, and cell therapy.
The conference featured participation from eminent scholars, including Professor Dr. Ziarat Hossain from the University of New Mexico, USA, and Gene Scientist Dr. Abed Chaudhury from Genofax, Australia. Professor Dr. Haeng Muk Cho from Kongju National University, South Korea, and seven researchers from Nepal also attended, further enriching the event.
A remarkable 530 research papers were submitted from both domestic and international universities, including contributions from the Philippines. Of these, 488 were accepted for presentation. Approximately 800 researchers registered, making the conference a significant platform for knowledge exchange and innovation.
The speakers expressed their optimism that the event would foster groundbreaking discoveries, inspire young researchers, and pave the way for international cooperation in life sciences. They also encouraged participants to use the conference as a stepping stone to address pressing global issues and advance the betterment of humanity.
