Police arrested three extortionists in connection with the shooting of a tea shop owner, following a case filed at Ashulia Police Station in Savar upazila on Friday night.
Nure Alam Siddiqui, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, confirmed the matter on Saturday afternoon.
The arrested men are Parvez alis Kala Parvez, 45; Iyar Hossain, 24; and Khokon Talukdar, 19.
On Thursday (Jnuary 9, 2025), a tea shop owner was shot by the accused in fron of Debuniar Garmnets in Ashulia's Gerat area.
Police said that Ratan, Akash, Toyab, and Parvez were collecting money from the shop owners as they did on other days. At that time, they asked the tea shop owner, Soynik Islam Shahin, to pay money, but he refused. The extortionists then began beating Shahin. During the incident, Toyab shot Shahin in the leg while he was fleeing the scene to save himself.
Later, Shahim took shelter in a house beside his shop. Police rescued him and took him to a local hospital after receiving information.
Following this incident, Nazma Begum, mother of Shahin, filed a case against 10-12 people with naming five people.
