Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 58 Rohingyas, including women, children, while they were attempting an illegal entry through the Buchitong border in Nayapara Union of Alikadam Upazila, Bandarban in the early hours of Saturday.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 58 Rohingyas, including women, children, while they were attempting an illegal entry through the Buchitong border in Nayapara Union of Alikadam Upazila, Bandarban in the early hours of Saturday.

After getting the information about Rohingyas fleeing Myanmar with assistance from several Bangladeshi nationals, BGB of Alikadam Battalion personnel conducted a raid in the border area and detained the group at around 4AM on Saturday.

According to the sources, they were intercepted while being transported on a truck, a private car, and several motorcycles and five people accused of facilitating the illegal crossing were also detained during the operation.

Legal proceedings against them are underway, and cases are being prepared at Alikadam Police Station.
Mirza Zahid Uddin, Alikadam Police Station’s officer-in-charge, acknowledging the matter said no case had yet been filed and appropriate measures will be taken once the case is lodged.
