Police rescued an abducted person and arrested five members of a kidnapping gang from Sheorapara area of Mirpur in Dhaka.
The arrestees were Md Alam Hossain, 40, Md Monir Ahmed, 35, Md Kabir, 34, Md Mofizur Hossain Johnny Molla, 44 and Mst Sufia, 35.
A media release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said police conducted a raid at a house on Iqbal road in Sheorapara of Mirpur at around 9PM on Friday and arrested them.
It said a trader Russel Khan from Gazipur had been buying and selling cloth from various companies in Dhaka for a long time. He met Ayna alias Kazli through business purpose.
On January 9, Kazli asked Russel Khan to come to the Sheorapara area to buy cloths. When Russel near the Mirpur Metrorail Station at 2PM on Friday, Kazli asked him to go to Sufia's house to see fabrics on Iqbal Road in Sheorapara.
As Russel reached the house, some people forcibly locked him in a room and snatched Tk 35,000 and a mobile phone and documents.
They called Russel's family members and friend over phone and demanded Tk 10 lakh as ransom.
Russel's friend Elahi informed the Mirpur Model Police about the kidnapping. Police using intelligence information and technology Police identified the location and rescued the victim and arrested the kidnappers.
A case was filed at Mirpur Model Police Station in this connection.
