The Bangladesh women's cricket team is gearing up for a decisive series against the West Indies, aiming to secure direct qualification for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 in India.
The team, led by Nigar Sultana Joty, is scheduled to depart on January 13 for the three-match ODI and T20I series.
To confirm their spot in the World Cup, Bangladesh must rank within the top six of the ICC Women’s Championship points table. Following a clean sweep against Ireland in their previous ODI series, the team is focused on maintaining momentum against the West Indies.
Captain Nigar Sultana stressed the importance of the series, describing it as critical for their World Cup aspirations. “Our goal is clear: secure four points and confirm our place in the World Cup. We are fully focused on delivering strong performances and winning matches,” she stated during a press conference on Saturday.
The series presents a challenging task, particularly at the St. Kitts venue, known for its demanding conditions. While Joty acknowledged these difficulties, she expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and adaptability. “Each venue has its challenges, and St. Kitts is no exception. Success will depend on our mindset and approach. We are determined to give our best,” she added.
St. Kitts has historically been a tough ground for Bangladesh’s men’s team, but Joty sees it as an opportunity for their batters. “Batting well will be key to easing pressure on our bowlers, who have been consistently performing. Our team is well-balanced, and we are optimistic about achieving our goals.”
The ODI matches are scheduled for January 19, 21, and 24, with the T20I series following on January 27, 29, and 31. All games will be held in St. Kitts, where the team hopes to take a significant step towards the World Cup.
