Former Bangladesh captain and dashing opener Tamim Iqbal Khan has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. The legendary batsman confirmed his decision through an emotional social media post on Friday marking the end of an illustrious career.

"I have been away from international cricket for a long time. That distance will not be bridged again. My chapter in international cricket is over," Tamim wrote on his verified Facebook page.

In his heartfelt post, Tamim revealed that the decision had been on his mind for a while. He wrote, "I have been thinking about this for a long time. Now that a major event like the Champions Trophy is ahead, I do not want to face criticism again or disrupt the team's focus."

"Of course, I did not want this outcome before. I removed myself from the BCB central contract a long time ago because I did not want to cause any complications. Although it has been said many times in the media that I left things unresolved, the reality is different. There is no point in planning or discussing someone who is not part of any BCB contract and who voluntarily stepped down over a year ago. Even so, unnecessary discussions have continued," he elaborated.

"The decision to retire or continue playing is the right of a cricketer or any professional athlete. I gave myself time to reflect. Now, I feel the time has come."

Tamim acknowledged efforts by the current team management to bring him back and wrote, "Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto sincerely asked me to return, and there were discussions with the selection committee. I am grateful to them for still considering me suitable. However, I decided to listen to my heart."

Reflecting on a difficult chapter, Tamim expressed disappointment over the events leading to his absence from the 2023 World Cup, he explained, "What happened before the 2023 World Cup was a big shock for me, as I didn't leave the team for cricketing reasons. Even after that, wherever I went, many cricket fans told me they wanted to see me back in the national team. I thought about their love."

He also shared a personal moment, mentioning his son's wish to see him in the national jersey again:
"My son has never directly told me, but he has repeatedly told his mother that he wants to see his father play in the national jersey again. I'm sorry for disappointing the fans. I tell my son, 'The day you grow up, you will understand your father.'"

With these poignant words, Tamim Iqbal concluded his post, drawing the curtain on a remarkable journey that spanned over 16 years and left an enduring legacy in Bangladesh cricket.
